Although it had been suggested that the Rapide may be the production version of Skoda's MissionL concept that was show in Frankfurt last month, this doesn't seem to be the case.
Instead, the Rapid, which borrows its name from the rear-engine Skoda coupe of the mid-late 1980s, is a rebadged version of the Indian market VW Vento, otherwise known as the Polo sedan.

What we can tell you is that we see is a sliver Polo 5d parked in what is probably a dealership (or perhaps a rental car office) seemingly somewhere in Europe and then, all of a sudden; the Polo begins to roll out the shop.
The German supermini drives through the entrance and falls down onto a busy road full of cars, and then, as if Chuck Norris a guardian angel was looking over the shoulders of anyone involved in this clip, the car goes straight through the traffic without causing any trouble.
What drew VW to the WRC was the change of rules by FIA for the 2011 season and onwards, which demand 1.6-liter turbocharged engines with direct injection, in order to keep up with the downsizing trend in road-going cars and lessen the development costs for the teams, thus drawing more competitors to the series.

Before the WRC announcement, Volkswagen had denied rumors of developing a Polo R, explaining that a very expensive small hot-hatch wouldn't be profitable. However, the rally car revealed in the beginning of May featured the R nameplate and had lots of R branding on the bodywork.

Starting with the sportier of the two "A0" segment concepts, the Tex is Italdesign's take on "tomorrow's sporty Volkswagen". This baby Scirocco - approximately the size of a Polo and named after Italian comic hero Tex Willer - is a front-wheel drive sport hatch powered by a Twin Drive hybrid plug-in system.
Mated to a 7-speed DSG, this allows for up to 35 kilometers of electric travel, a top speed of 220 km/h (137 mph), and a sprint to 100 km/h (62 mph) in "about 6 seconds".

The second and smallest member of Volkswagen's GTI family gets a punchy 1.4-liter twin-charged petrol engine pumping out 180 horsepower and a 250Nm or 184 lb-ft of torque.
Like its predecessors, the five-door only CrossPolo is a faux-offroader that tries to battle the wild jungle of city parking spaces with SUV-like elements such as rugged plastic guards that cover most of the lower body and wheel arches, a 15mm higher ride height and larger 17-inch alloy wheels in tires size 215/40.
The latest generation of the Polo BlueMotion adopts a new 1.2-litre TDI three-cylinder common rail diesel engine generating 75 horsepower and 133 lbs ft (180 Nm) of torque.

The new 2010 Polo GTI packs the same 1.4-liter TSI gasoline engine with turbo- and supercharging as the Seat Ibiza Cupra with an estimated output of 180 horsepower and a hefty 250Nm or 184 lb-ft of torque, available from 2,000 to 4,500 rpm.
The hot Polo's TSI gasoline engine is linked to a compact seven-speed, twin-clutch DSG gearbox that channels drive through the front axle.
Aligned with a 1,184kg or 2,610 lbs kerbweight, the 1.4 TSI allows the Polo GTI to accelerate from rest to 100km/h or 62 mph in 6.9 seconds before reaching a top speed of 228 km/h or 142 mph.
Equally impressive is the fact that all that power is transferred to the wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox that is connected to an all-wheel drive system from an Audi TT.
AME Racing states that the VW Polo dragster goes from 0-100km/h (62mph) in just 2.3 seconds, from 0-200km/h (124mph) in 6.3 seconds and from 0-250km/h (155mph) in only 9.0 seconds while it runs the quarter mile sprint in 9.15 seconds. According to the Germans, the Polo is capable of speeds of around 300km/h or 187mph.

Now you may wonder why one or in this case, two people would go into all that trouble to build an unwieldy two-piece slot car race track in the… rear end of two Volkswagen Polos. True, it’s stupendously absurd to put so much work into a detailed creation in the back of your car, but on the other hand, that’s what makes it so damn cool; building something like this just for kicks! For some reason, German automakers find that wrapping a vehicle in soccer-team livery is something quite cool. Ford for example presented a limited edition version of the Ford Focus 1.4 dressed in the colors of the German football club FC Cologne while Volkswagen’s proposition, which is based on the Polo, is dedicated to Werder
