Nissan Launches Stripped Out 370Z NISMO RC Racer Ready for the Track

Ferrari and other luxury sports car makers aren't the only ones to offer race-spec variants of their series production models. Joining the club is Nissan with its newly revealed 370Z NISMO RC that is now available for customer orders.

The Japanese firm's track-ready racer is based on the street-legal 370Z NISMO but has undergone an extreme diet dropping the production model's luxury amenities. As a result, Nissan Motorsport engineers managed to shave more than 350 pounds off the 370Z NISMO RC, which tips the scales at just 2,954 lbs (1,339kg).

In addition to the crash diet, Nissan Motorsport also added numerous NISMO performance upgrades such as a race-spec exhaust system, a tuned ECM, a high capacity clutch, flywheel, engine oil, transmission and differential coolers.

2012 Nissan 370Z gains Standard Oil Cooler, Base Manual Model Dropped from Roadster Range

Having entered the final quarter of 2011, automakers are ushering in their new model year lineups, though most of the times, there's nothing really "new" about the cars other than the different designations.

That's more or less the case with the 2012 Nissan 370Z series. The only changes for the new model year concern the addition of an oil-cooler as standard on both body styles, while Nissan eliminated the base 370Z Roadster with the 6-speed manual, leaving the more expensive Touring model for those that want to manually change gears while enjoying the sun.

Nissan Updates 2011 370Z in Europe, Adds GT Edition to the Range

With all the attention (rightfully) focused on the new Esflow pure-electric sports coupe concept at the Geneva Motor Show, Nissan’s announcement on the presentation of the updated for European market 370Z Coupe slipped by almost unnoticed. For the new model year, Nissan introduces a number of suspension, transmission and equipment improvements for the entire 370Z Coupe range while also adding a new trim level to the range called the GT Edition.

Starting with the performance upgrades, the 370Z Coupe benefits from retuned dampers which promise to provide a better balance between ride comfort and high-speed handling. Nissan said that due to the higher average speeds regularly enjoyed in Europe, technicians from Nissan Technical Centre Europe (NTCE) engineered these changes.

Nissan Esflow Sports Coupe Concept is the Love Child of a Leaf and a 370Z

The Electric Zero Emission Sports car is not a new idea. There have been many concepts at many motor shows that have been loosely based on this concept. The Esflow makes use of the same EV technology found on Nissan's first Zero Emission production vehicle, the all-electric Leaf. Nissan 370Z Coupe Black Edition: 40th Anniversary Special for Europe

Having already presented commemorative editions for the Z's 40th birthday both in Japan and the USA, Nissan has now announced a special celebratory version of the 370Z for the European market that will be available from April as a coupe only, and in a limited run of just 370 units.

As its name implies, the Euro-spec 370Z Black Edition comes in two metallic shades black and quartz with both paints using Nissan's Scratch Shield technology that promises to 'heal' the finish in the case of stone chip damage.

The exterior of the 370Z Black can be identified by the dark grey 19-inch forged RAYS wheels that encompass the red brake calipers and the special emblem on the rear hatch.

Inside the special Z gets a red leather and suede appointed interior with embossed 40th Anniversary logo seats, smooth leather wrapped steering wheel with red stitching that's also found on the centre cluster, centre console and knee pads plus the firm's touch-screen satellite navigation and audio system with USB connectivity.

Other than that, the Black Edition features the same 3.7-litre V6 developing 328PS as the standard model offering the 370Z a limited top speed of 250km/h or 155mph and a 0-100km/h (62 mph) time of 5.3 seconds or 5.6 seconds for the 7-speed automatic version.
