NY Show: 2011 Infiniti QX Officially Unveiled, Priced from $56,700

[Updated with New Photos] Infiniti (officially) pulled the wraps off its all-new 2011 QX56 full-size SUV at the New York International Auto Show. Bigger and brawnier than its predecessor, the second-generation QX is based on the recently revealed 2011 Nissan Patrol. Infiniti's version features a unique front and end treatment, but the rest of the body has remained virtually unchanged.

"The look is clearly Infiniti with its signature Infiniti grille, broad shoulders and large greenhouse," says Ben Poore, vice president, Infiniti Business Unit. "It's rugged, sophisticated and completely captivating." Well, we'll let you be the judge of that.

New York Show: All-New 2011 Infiniti QX56 Leaked

With the new Nissan Patrol-based Infiniti QX56, Nissan hopes to release a better competitor in the full-size luxury SUV segment than its lumpy, tumorous predecessor. From the pics, it's already way ahead of the game (barring the absurd, swoopy vents and lesion-like tail lamps).

Wearing the manliest face Infiniti has ever put on an SUV while retaining the brand's design language, the new-for 2011 QX56 is visually much more blunt and regal, if that's possible.

Infiniti to Premiere an All-New Production Model in Geneva - Could it be the EV?

Along with today's announcement on the world premiere of the diesel-powered versions of the EX and FX SUVs, Infiniti also revealed that it will use the Geneva Motor Show to stage the global reveal of an all new production model. However the Japanese automaker did not give out any specific details.

To our knowledge, Infiniti has currently green-lighted two all-new models for production : it's own version of the new Nissan Patrol luxury SUV, the 2011 QX, and a fully-electric four-seat model that was announced by Nissan President and CEO, Carlos Ghosn, at last year's Tokyo Motor Show in October.

Then again it may be a different model altogether, one we have never heard of before from Infiniti officials. Unless the Japanese firm teases us with some new information and / or a picture, we'll have to wait until the Geneva Show opening on March 2 to find out.

All-New Nissan Patrol SUV to be Unveiled at a Special Event in UAE on February 14

The next generation of the Nissan Patrol luxury SUV will have its world premiere on February 14 at a special event that will be held in the United Arab Emirates. For this purpose, Nissan launched an online competition offering an all expenses paid trip to the event for a total of six lucky winners.

However before you go and apply on the dedicated website, note that only residents of U.A.E., Saudi Arabia. Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain and Qata are eligible to participate in the campaign.

We'll remind you that we first had the chance to see the 2010/2011 Patrol without any camouflage whatsoever in December 2008 through a series of photos that are believed to have been shot during an internal presentation.

Coincidentally, the same thing happened last September with the Nissan Patrol's more luxurious sibling, the 2011 Infiniti QX, which is scheduled to be introduced in North America sometime this year or early 2011.

It is expected that Nissan's Toyota Land Cruiser competitor will be offered with an updated engine range comprising of V6 and V8 petrol units as well as a six-cylinder turbo diesel.
