PSA Peugeot Citroën to Cut 3,500 Jobs in Europe as it Tries to Slash Costs

French carmaker PSA Peugeot Citroën is feeling the burden of the economic crisis as the company said on Wednesday that despite group revenues being up 3.5% compared with third-quarter 2010, its core automotive division's revenues are down 1.6% year-on-year and as a result, it would barely break even this year.

The Paris-based automaker blamed the drop in revenues on the negative impact from the aftermath of Japan's tsunami (€250 million) and the higher prices of raw materials (€700 million).

Peugeot 908 Hybrid4 Racer Undergoes its Maiden Track Test

At the Geneva Motor Show last March, Peugeot unveiled a new version of its 908 LMP1-class endurance racer called Hybrid4 and as its name suggests, it uses a hybrid powertrain.

Peugeot did not enter its new diesel-electric endurance racer in the last 24 Hours of Le Mans, nor in any other event so far for that matter, relying instead on the current 908HDi diesel. The reason is that the brand-new model was still at the early stages of development and is scheduled to compete in 2012.

Video: Le Gendarme de Paris…

When Sergeant Ludovic Cruchot (played by the great Louis de Funès) and the rest of the protagonists of the Le gendarme film series terrorized the French roads with their crazy antics and car chases, it was extremely fun to watch.

But something tells us that the pedestrians seen in this clip, which was shot in a crowded district of Paris, France, were far less than amused with the police man behind the steering wheel of this Peugeot 308 307. Follow the jump to see why.

POLL: Mirror, Mirror on the Wall, Which is the Most Beautiful of All?

The results of a collaborative project between two or more automotive partners can vary deeply, depending on how far the participating companies are willing to take the rebadging process.

For example, the differences between the original Fiat Doblo and GM's Opel Combo spinoff (a RAM variant will also be introduced in early 2013) are more or less limited to the design of their front bumpers.

The French PSA Peugeot Citroën group on the other hand, gave its designers a little more breathing room when it came to the development of its new compact SUVs / crossovers, the Peugeot 4008 and the Citroën C4 AIRCROSS.

First Drive: New Peugeot 508 GT 2.2-liter HDi Sedan

It’s been a long time since Peugeot had a serious contender in the hotly contested sub-premium segment. The 407 was unloved and lacking in style; a “307 with a boot” purchased exclusively by the brand faithful. It was a bit bland and outdated compared to its major European competitor: the Mk 4 Ford Mondeo.

With the 508, Peugeot hopes to change all that. A carbon copy of the Peugeot 5 Concept that premiered at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, the 2011 Peugeot 508 puts the verve – that oh-so-important French flair – back into Peugeot’s line-up.

We take the wheel of Peugeot’s flagship, AU$52,990 508 GT with a 2.2-liter turbocharged diesel and a 6-speed automatic for a week-long road test and review.

IAA 2011: Peugeot 508 RXH is an Environmentally-Conscious Crossover

The crossover recipe introduced by Audi’s Allroad for those who fancy a bit of off-roading but find SUVs too flashy is quite simple: take a station-wagon model, and then add plastic body cladding and underside protection, rise the suspension height to increase road clearance and voilà: your new crossover model is ready.

The same recipe has been followed by many manufacturers, the most recent being Peugeot with its brand-new 508 RXH that was launched at the 64th International Auto Show in Frankfurt.

Scoop: 2012 Peugeot 2008 Small Crossover to Take on the Nissan Juke

It's been over a year since the PSA Peugeot-Citroën group announced an agreement with Mitsubishi to develop and adapt the Japanese company's ASX small crossover for its two brands in Europe and possibly other markets down the road.

Now, our spy photographers have captured the Peugeot-branded version of the Mitsubishi ASX, which is also called the Outlander Sport in the USA, and RVR in Japan and Canada, while testing in Europe. From what we understand and judging by the firm's current naming literature, the Peugeot model will carry the 2008 moniker.

Peugeot Details All-New 508 RXH Diesel-Electric Hybrid Crossover

The HX1 conceptual people-carrier may give us some ideas about Peugeot’s future, but at the present moment, the French brand's newest offering is the all-new 508 RXH, which is the third variant to be added to mid-size model's range after the sedan and the estate.

Although Peugeot had given us a first peek at the 508 RXH in July, the Frankfurt Motor Show will mark the crossover’s world premiere.

Based on the estate version of the 508, the RXH follows in the lines of the Audi Allroad and Volvo XC70 featuring a unique front end, flared wheel arches, and of course, higher-riding suspension along with 18-inch wheels and wider tracks.

Frankfurt Show Preview: Peugeot’s HX1 Hybrid4 MPV Concept for Six

With the Frankfurt Motor Show just around the corner, Peugeot decided to release the first official photos of the HX1, a six-seater MPV concept propelled by a diesel-electric powertrain.

On the outside, the aerodynamically optimized HX1 (Cd 0.28) adopts the company’s new “floating” front grille that we've already seen on the 508.

One of the concepts unique features are the seven-spoke alloy wheels that resemble turbine blades when stationary, while when on the move, they open up to form a flat surface for better aerodynamic performance. For the same purpose, a spoiler and two side skirts fitted at the top of the tailgate deploy above 100 km/h (62 mph).

Point, Click and Hold: Peugeot’s Novel Ad Campaign Makes Users Concentrate on Their Computer Screens

Ever see one of those stupid competitions where a group of people try and see who can keep their hands on a car or a truck the longest, and the person who does actually wins that car or truck?

If you haven’t, there’s a documentary called Hands on a Hard Body that covers this in detail, but suffice to say it’s like watching American Idol if all the contestants were unemployed hicks and weren’t required to do anything but stand up there on stage.

So French carmaker Peugeot, never being one to shy away from reinventing something old for the internet age, took the concept and turned it into an interactive webpage.

SCOOP: Peugeot Trying Out New High-Riding 508 Outdoor

It has only been a few months since Peugeot spun out its newly designed 508 mid-size model in both saloon and Station Wagon formats, but the French acarmaker is already working on a new derivative inspired by its high-riding 207 Outdoor model.

Our spy photographers snagged a prototype version of the 508 Outdoor testing on European roads. Even though Peugeot’s full-body plastic wraps leave much to the imagination, it is obvious that the car rides on a jacked up suspension.

New Peugeot 107 Sportium Special Edition for the UK Market

Peugeot Creates Interactive Print Ad with an Inflatable Mini Airbag for the 408 Sedan

This past February, Peugeot launched the four-door sedan variant of its 308 series in the Brazilian market as the new 408. In one of its first advertising campaigns for the car, the French carmaker wanted to communicate the compact-sized model’s safety features, namely the availability of six airbags with eight protection points.

Peugeot turned to the creative people of the Sao Paulo-based advertising agency Loducca who came up with an interactive print ad for the 408. The company used a supplier from China to create 50,000 mini airbags, which were then inserted in one of Brazil’s most reputable business magazines, the Exame.
